Spend a day exploring some of the World War I sites of outstanding significance to Australian, New Zealand and Turkish history on our Gallipoli Tour from Istanbul. Travel along the Sea of Marmaris to where it all began at Anzac Cove when the Australian and New Zealand Army corps landed on 25 April 1915. Pay your respects at the Beach Cemetery, Ariburnu Cemetery, Johnson’s Jolly Cemetery and the Turkish 57th Infantry Regiment Cemetery where those who lost their lives are buried, and recognise the bond that developed between the two sides at the Mehmetcik Statue. The Gallipoli Campaign was the first major World War I battle undertaken by the ANZAC troops, and while it was a victory for the Ottoman Empire, the horrific casualties endured have seen it remembered annually by both sides since.
