2-Day Ephesus Pamukkale Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Ephesus

You will be picked up from your Istanbul hotel in the early morning and transferred to the airport for the flight to Izmir. Travel by air-conditioned coach to the ancient city of Ephesus, beginning your tour at the Magnesia Gate. Slowly walk downhill as you follow your specialist guide through the ruins of this former Roman city, exploring the Odem, the Celsius Library, the Fountain of Trajan, the Temple of Hadrian and the Great Theatre. The impressive Great Theater had a capacity for 25,000 people and was where St. Paul once preached to the citizens of the city.

Your Ephesus tour will also visit the House of the Virgin Mary, a little house in the Solmissos Mountains where the Mother of Jesus was believed to have lived out her final days, as well as the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today only the structural foundations and a few sculptural fragments remain, but you can still sense the glory of this Hellenistic Age construction. At the end of the day’s sightseeing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kusadası or Selcuk.

Day 2: Pamukkale

You will be picked up from your hotel after breakfast for the 3-4 hour drive to Pamukkale, with this unique natural landscape visible well before you arrive in the village which lies at its base. The water in Pamukkale originates in nearby hot springs and has a high mineral content. As it cascades down the hill, calcium carbonate is deposited and gives the appearance of a frozen waterfall when it hardens into travertine terraces. Long before Pamukkale was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Romans recognised the therapeutic properties of the hot springs and built the spa city of Hierapolis which lies above. After exploring its ruins, you will be transferred back to the Izmir Airport for your flight to Istanbul, where you will be met on arrival and transported back to your hotel.
